Do you remember Lot’s wife? She looked back! She was running for her life with her family, fleeing the destruction of Sodom, when she made the fatal mistake of looking back, disobeying the angel's explicit command. As a result, she turned into a pillar of salt.
Why is her story so important? Jesus Himself told us to remember her. In Luke 17:32, Jesus says, Remember Lot’s wife! Why did He highlight her above so many other women in the Bible? Her story is a powerful reminder of the importance of obedience and the dangers of lingering in the past.
I often find myself caught between the past and the future, holding onto memories, regrets, or even successes that have long passed. It's easy to linger in what was, hoping to reclaim a moment or a feeling. But Jesus warns us against this. When we look back, we risk becoming stuck, paralyzed by what used to be, and unable to move forward into what God has for us next.
Let's Reflect:
Ask yourself the following questions and reflect personally.
Am I lingering in the past? Are there areas in my life where I am stuck and unable to move forward because I keep looking back?
What am I holding onto? Are there possessions, memories, or emotions I need to let go of to follow God's command?
Am I obedient to God's direction? Do I trust Him enough to leave behind what He asks me to without looking back?
Let's Pray:
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the reminder through the story of Lot’s wife. I confess that I often look back, holding onto the past instead of trusting in Your plan for my future. Help me to be obedient to Your commands, to move forward without hesitation, and to leave behind anything that hinders my walk with You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, giving me the strength to let go and the courage to move forward. May I never be paralyzed by my past but always find refuge in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let's Take Action:
Self-Examination: Take time this week to reflect on areas of your life where you may be stuck. Journal your thoughts and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any places where you are lingering or longing for the past.
Prayer: Commit to daily prayer, asking God to give you the strength to move forward and to trust in His plans. Pray specifically for any areas where you feel stuck.
Letting Go: Identify one thing you need to let go of. It could be a physical item, a memory, a regret, or a grudge. Make a conscious decision to release it and symbolically do something to represent this letting go, such as donating an item, writing a forgiveness letter, or creating a new routine.
Moving Forward: Set a small, achievable goal that helps you move forward. It could be starting a new hobby, reconnecting with a loved one, or beginning a Bible study. Take a step of faith into the new path God has for you.
Remember, as we look forward and trust in God's plan, we find freedom and refuge in Him. Let’s take Jesus’ words to heart and remember Lot’s wife as a wake-up call and catalyst for change and obedience in our lives.
